Real development is improving standard of living : Dr Balasubrahmanya – Dec 16, 2015

Mysuru: “Development of the tribes is not about making them economically sound and giving them education. But to respect their lives and giving them the support they need” said Dr. Hi Chi Boralingayya, Professor of Kannada University, Hampi.

He was speaking on the valedictory ceremony of ‘Girijanara Novu Nalivu’ programme held at Vanaranga, Kalamandir. We can see many graduates, double degree and PhD holders. But none of them have the humanitarian basis to think about the Girijana people. Understanding their lives and works. Their songs, literature should be collected and preserved. This work should be done by the Sahitya Akademy, he added.

“We see agriculture as economic way. But girijanas see it as a way of nearing to the mother earth. We, so called educated, think of them as backward people and call them to come to mainstream, actually they are doing the work of sustaining the nature ” said Dr R Balasubrahmanya, founder of Swamy Vivekananda Youth Movement.

Development is not constructing good roads, hospitals, schools, but increasing the standard of living of the people he opined.

Folklore scholar, Prof Kikkeri Narayana, President of Karnataka Sahitya akademy, Malathi Pattanashetty were present on the occasion.
